Molecular density lab: why the same H₂O takes more room frozen.

Ice Density Simulator screenshot

Visualizes the 917:1000 kg/m³ density ratio between ice and liquid water: the same molecules, but frozen into an open hydrogen-bonded lattice that occupies ~9% more space.

A float-and-melt animation shows the cube riding 8.3% above the waterline and demonstrates why the level doesn't move when it melts — floating ice already displaces exactly its own weight in water.
